Atlas Named "Vegas' Best Theatre Company" by the LV Weekly!
Atlas Theatre Ensemble was named Vegas' Best Theatre Company by the Las Vegas Weekly. An event was held at Tao Nightclub on Thursday, May, 21st, to honor all of the winners city-wide. "We are very thrilled to be given this recognition," says Artistic Director Chris Mayse. "It is a testament, not only to our artists and volunteers, but to the patrons who have supported us since arriving in town. We have lots planned for the next year, and this will just help in elevating our status in the city's art community." You can read more about all of Vegas' Best at http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/news/2009/may/21/vegas-best-2009/. Thank you to all of you who have supported us this year, and here's to many more seasons of entertaing, engaging, and enlightening!!

The Monkeys Do It Again - This Time in the LVRJ!!!
"FEED THE MONKEY", Atlas' Late-Night Comedy Extravaganza, was recognized by LVRJ reviewer Tony DelValle recently. Of their work, DelValle called it, " clever, effortless, and funny!". He said they were as "inventive in their delivery as the original writing was in it's construction." Kudos yet again to our Monkeys, and further proof of their status as Vegas' premiere comedy troupe!
"Trojan Women 2.0" receives Critical-Acclaim; Atlas named "Best in Local Alternative Theatre" by Las Vegas Weekly!!!
The Las Vegas Premiere of Charles Mee's "Trojan Women 2.0", has received praise by both critics and audiences alike. Along with that, it has brought controversy, as each performance has experienced its share of walk-outs and patrons who are shocked or dismayed by the modern retelling of the the classic story by Euripides. "It doesn't surprise me", states Chris Mayse, Artistic Director of Atlas. "People here have never experienced Mee's work and use of lanuguage here. Althought the venacular is modern, it is still rooted in poetic imagery and verse rhythms. The story is not for everyone, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be told, or that people shouldn't experience it." Mayse goes on to say, " I don't expect people who see Atlas shows to 'like' everything they see. However, I do hope they will come away respecting the work, respecting the fact they've been challenged, and that it will encourage them to come back and see what else we have to not only entertain them, but enlighten, envigorate, and engage them"

No Exit  (also known as 'Huis Clos'), was first performed at the Vieux-Colombier in May, 1944, just before the liberation of Paris in World War II. Drawing on the then newly- founded philosophy of existentialism, the story centers around three individuals who have been brought together in a room. There are no windows, modest furnishings, and only one door. As the three get acquainted with each other, stories of their lives begin to be told; revealling the undercurrent of why they all came together in this one place. In this purgatorial state, all three feel the burning humiliation of their souls, as each is stripped of pretense and exposed to the realities of their being.

Full of heart-wrenching tales and story through song, this is a must-see for the world we live in today. Trojan Women 2.0 is a Las Vegas premiere, and not to be missed!

During the 1930s, the film industry produced myriad "scare films" that warned the public against such societal ills as alcohol, promiscuity and "dope." The hilariously dreadful 1936 epic Reefer Madness was screened in high schools for years as a fictionalized but fact-based representation of the hellish enslavement awaiting those who were tempted to try the "demon weed" marijuana. Inspired by campy hipness of The Rocky Horror Show and Night of the Living Dead  the team of Kevin Murphy (book, lyrics) and Dan Studney (book, music), has exploded the basic structure of the film, creating a wonderfully inventive, super-charged musical parody! This is a Las Vegas Premiere!

" 'Reefer Madness' smells like a cult classic!" - Hollywood Reporter
"Irreverent and Hilarious!" - LA Weekly
"As this entertaining show should help remind us, the freedom to be controversial, troubling or silly in artistic expression is part of what distinguishes us from those who wish to end our laughter permanently." - USA Today
